This post will highlight the essential Photoshop Elements features. You can also get a deeper understanding by checking out our Photoshop Elements review.

Edit Images in Adobe Photoshop Elements

The majority of Photoshop Elements users are experienced Photoshop users and thus primarily focus on editing images. It is a very powerful image editing software but lets down a bit when it comes to beginners. It only has limited features for basic editing but you can always make a start with any of these basic editing features.

Enable Edit

If you are editing an image you will likely see this button and will have to enable it to start editing. You can enable the button by going to Edit → Enable Editing or by choosing Edit → Enable Editing from the toolbar menu.

Selective Color

Selective color is the image’s background color and the foreground color. When you click on the image and then the foreground color, you will automatically move your cursor to the background color.

To switch the foreground and background colors, you will need to go to Select → Color Selection. This will open a dialog box with a list of the color swatches that you have available on your device. To select a different swatch, just click it.

Once you have selected the correct swatch, click OK. You can always set this up as the default color mode by going to Edit → Preferences → Smart Tools → Color.

Apply Shadows/Highlights

If you hold down the Shift key while dragging a selection, you will get the option to apply highlights and shadows. This will result in increased visibility and clarity.

Add text

Go to Select → All → Add Text. Type the text you want in the dialog box and click OK.

It is recommended to select the exact text you want to add. You can do so by clicking on the text or by typing in the box.

You can use the drop-down menu below to select the type of text you need and the font. You can also use the fonts list to change the font.

Add a layer

Go to Layer → New → Layer or press F4 and a dialog box will appear with options for adding a new layer.

Just click OK.

You can apply a layer style to the layer. This will result in effects like drop shadows, drop glows and so on.

If you have converted your image to black and white, you can remove the color from the layer. Click on the

Powershell command for first line of file

Having a bit of a brain block and need a bit of help.
First off, I’ll be blunt, I’m new to powershell.
I’m trying to figure out how to edit the first line of a file in powershell.
So if I have a.csv file with the first line being a path to an image on my HDD for instance:
I want to be able to edit that line and save it back as a new file.
I have in mind of trying a few things, like the below (which doesn’t work) where I first get a copy of the file contents to the clipboard.
Get-Content -Path “C:\Users\Matt\Desktop\blue-ball.csv” -Clipboard

But then I’m not sure how to modify the first line of the file.
I have seen some other similar things that seem to be close, though I’m not sure if they will work or how to use them with a file name.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

You could use the following command to import the content of a file to the Clipboard:
$content = (get-content C:\path\file.txt) -join ‘`n’

From there, you could just insert the clipboard’s content (with $content) at the beginning of your file like so:
$content | out-file C:\path\file.txt

From your comment, I presume the first line is the path of the file.
The following command should give you the result you want:
$path = $content -replace ‘^(.*)’, “C:\Users\Matt\Desktop\blue-ball”
$path | Out-File “C:\Users\Matt\Desktop\blue-ball.txt”

# Retouching

A large number of Photoshop tools are used for retouching images or painting on them. These tools include the Magic Wand, Pen Tool, Heal Brush, Healing Brush, Clone Stamp, and the Spot Healing Brush. An important thing to remember about the various tools is that each has its own goal when used to correct an image.

For instance, if you have an image with some yellow patches where the lighting is not even and there are some small spots that look like dents, a skin retoucher may use the Spot Healing Brush to fill these spots in with the correct skin tone.

The retoucher can then use the Clone Stamp to remove the repair spot and also remove the dents. A retoucher may use the Magic Wand tool to click on the edge of the yellow part to select that area in the image, and then use the Direct Selection tool to click on the edges of the repair spot and click off (click the little circle that appears to turn it off). This will select the patch and all the surrounding pixels. Once that is selected, the Photoshopped patch will be deleted.
